The Escape

Nadja and Woofie are trying to figure out how to get Nandor back to his room so he can eat. They’re also trying to figure out how to stop the Sire from escaping again.

Nandor, the vampire community’s leader, called a meeting to tell them that if their vampire turns dies then they will die as well. However, this caused a lot of panic and Nandor did not handle the situation well. ..

Meanwhile, Colin Robinson and Guillermo head out to the garden to try and find the Baron. They’re not sure if he’s really dead and soon get their answer. It turns out he’s actually still alive.

Given that Guillermo was the one who originally opened the door and burned him to a crisp, it reaffirms the idea that if the Sire dies then so too does everyone.

Guillermo decides to step up and catch the Sire, gaining crucial intel needed to go after him. He cleverly manages to organize everyone into a big group, gaining crucial intel from The Guide and Nadja heading atop a building where they talk to The Watchers. This comes in the form of The Guide and Nadja talking to gossipy gargoyles about what they know about the Sire. ..

Meanwhile, Guillermo gathers the troops together as they follow a trail of vampire urine south to an abandoned shop. As they all corner the creature and prepare to strike, it’s suddenly revealed that the Baron can actually understand the Sire’s ancient language. It turns out he just wants to be let free and be in peace.

After a tense standoff, Guillermo manages to calm the Sire down by using him as a hostage. The group comes to an understanding, with the Baron, Hellhound and Sire living together in the countryside. They have set up an Airbnb with a plentiful supply of fresh meat, which is a bonus.

The Episode Review

What We Do In The Shadows returns with a strong episode that features some returning characters and progresses them in meaningful ways. Seeing how far Guillermo has come is satisfying to watch, and he’s undoubtedly grown into his role as bodyguard this year. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we find he takes over the Vampire Council by the end of the season. ..

Nadja and Nandor continue to bicker around who’s taking control too, and it’s the perfect opportunity for Guillermo to swoop in and direct traffic. Seeing him do this so effortlessly is a great step forward for his character and it’ll be interesting to see what the rest of the season has in store for him.

This week’s episode was great, with both plotlines advancing nicely. This sets up the rest of the show well. ..
