The Casino

The vampire troupe, led by Viago (Jared Harris), decides to head to Las Vegas for the weekend. After gathering some of their ancestral soil, the group joins their next-door neighbors for the evening’s fun. ..

Guillermo, a bodyguard now, is not pleased about being encouraged to clean up during dinner. However, he opens up about his past to Nandor and the others at the dinner table. Just as they are getting ready to go out to the casino, they are encouraged out by Nandor. ..

Nandor can’t seem to get his head around why everyone is gone. He starts to worry that they may have left without him. Guillermo, on the other hand, is having a great time and doesn’t want to stop. Nadja finally comes back and tells them that she had to leave because her mom was sick. The Rat Pack are disappointed but understand that it’s just a show and they’ll be back soon.

Housekeeping showed up in their absence and cleaned their room - including the ancestral soil. With the vampires losing their powers, Lazlo finds himself trying to speak to Sean normally. Given they’re best friends now, Sean opens up to him about his previous gambling addiction. ..

Nandor is in a state of shock as he learns that the world is not as he thought it was. He was under the assumption that the world was set atop four elephants, but now it seems that the Big Bang is how the universe was created. Colin Robinson breaks this news and Nandor is in disbelief.

After Guillermo’s big trip, the vampires are in a deep state of depression. This culminates into the gang collecting money to repay Sean, after rigging the boxing game. They watch in glee as one of the boxer’s heads comes clean off. Wow. ..

As the episode comes to a close, our “big family” decide to head home again. They all say goodbye and share stories of their time spent together.

The Episode Review

In the latest episode of What We Do In The Shadows, the vampires are forced to leave their usual haunts in order to take part in a Las Vegas casino tournament. However, things quickly go awry for our bloodsuckers as they find themselves at a disadvantage against their human opponents. ..

Guillermo continues to be the real star of the show here, managing to present himself as a loyal bodyguard and heading off on a globe-trotting trip to bring back the soil for the gang. ..

It’s a clever move by the vampires, one that allows them to engage in their own subplots back in Sin City. The Rat Pack subplot is a nice diversion for Nadja too while Lazlo is taken out of his comfort zone, unable to hypnotize the unsuspecting victims.

With the gang back in their normal residency again, we’ll have to wait and see what this show has in store for us.
