Episode Guide

The basement has one level, the bedroom has one level, the planetarium has one level, the kitchen has two levels, the study has one level, and the kitchen level two has two levels. ..

The first season of Floor Is Lava was a bit of a letdown. The show had potential but fell short with too many replays, an annoying narrator, and some contestants who were just unbearable. It’s good that the show didn’t continue with this format.

Floor is Lava is a game where players must avoid the floor while navigating through obstacles in 10 episodes. The first episode is set in a pool of water, and each subsequent episode features different obstacles. The clock on the screen slowly ticks down, and teams of three must work together to navigate to the exit. ..

These obstacle courses usually include a wall to traverse across, simple environmental puzzles and, of course, some jumps too. The winners at the end walk away with $10,000. Compared to obstacle course shows like Takeshi’s Castle or Wipeout, Floor Is Lava is neither amusingly funny nor does it have much in the way of manic jumps and obstacles.

The show’s creators seem to know this too and whether it be a simple 3-foot belly flop onto a nearby obstacle or a player slipping and grabbing a platform, these segments are repeated over and over and over again throughout the episode, as if they’re some death-defying leap or feat of ingenuity. While I appreciate they’re sometimes played off as satirical, the joke loses its appeal when it’s repeated so often. ..

There are a few moments of humour, but they’re not consistent enough to make this an enjoyable watch. ..

The other issue with Floor Is Lava is that it’s a bit too loud and chaotic for my taste. The contestants are often screaming and over the top, which makes it difficult to hear them. There are some standout players, but they’re few and far between. This makes the show less enjoyable for me.

With a larger budget, a larger obstacle course and some tweaking, Floor Is Lava could be a simple and enjoyable game-show. There’s certainly potential to be had with this one, and there are a few amusing segments, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Compared to other obstacle course shows of its kind, Floor Is Lava is a disappointing effort.
