Como La Flor

The Narcos: Mexico Season 3 episode 2 begins with Walt briefing the team on their latest operation. With the FBI helping with 24 hour intel, they’re going to run this off-the-books, intending to make it look like Amado has an El Paso problem. ..

Angela is assigned to cover the big wedding, but she’s not sure what to expect. She’s heard that it’s a big event with lots of people and she’s curious about what it’ll be like. She meets Claudio, a prominent attorney who is also attending the wedding, and they start talking. Angela starts to feel like she has something in common with him and they start getting along well. The government owns the media in Mexico, and finding the truth is difficult to come by. Andrea works for one of the few good ones in the country, publishing their papers by hand.

Andrea refused to listen to her superior and continued to investigate the wedding further. Waiting outside the church, while this wedding ceremony gets underway, she managed to squeeze some info from the choir girls.

Father Baiz is a close friend of the family and this wedding appears to be a way of bringing order back to the cartels. Now, the Gulf Cartel and the Tijuanas are the big players here; the ones reaping the biggest benefits from the ongoing drug boom, but they’re not exactly kissing cousins. They actively hate each other but it doesn’t stop them from both showing up at the wedding.

The Sinaloan’s are the lowest in the hierarchy and are not given any money by Benjamin. Joaquin (El Chapo) is not allowed to access the United States and is forced to smile through whatever shitstorm Benjamin and his guys throw his way. As a side note, El Chapo is a three season crime drama that dives into his story in more detail, and it’s also on Netflix too. ..

Andrea is watching the group leave and is frustrated that she can’t get close to them. She’s disappointed when she doesn’t get a chance to chat with the security guard, who seems to be very angry.

Judge Soto and his wife, Sandra, come and go at the wedding; their son, Ramon, is pretty friendly with Judge Soto’s son, Ramiro. Later on, it would appear as if Ramon is being buttered up by Judge Soto to join the gang; when a drunk punter is beaten down by messing up their new trainers, for example.

Walt’s mission doesn’t go as planned. Two detectives, Clark and Gomez, show up and mention how Valdez is missing. This could well be connected to a whole bunch of other missing people – the owners of these lots. As his heart sinks, Walk shows up with the other officers but they’re too late. The whole lot has been completely cleared out and they’ve lost their chance to strike.

Walt is frustrated with the amount of work he has to do in order to keep up with Jaime. Jaime tells Walt to take the rest of the week off, as his priority is winning and not levelling the playing field. ..

Walt has decided to take Dani up on her offer to move to Chicago and join the DEA. He is determined to make a fresh start and join the Chicago DEA instead of continuing this failed operation.

Manny tells Amado that they’ve managed to move all the gear out of El Paso and the operation was a success. All the shops are closed for good. Amado is a smart cat and knew ahead of time that Walt and the other officers would move on them. Will he continue to evade the authorities?

The Episode Review

The second episode of Narcos: Mexico focused on Walt’s operation busting and Amado moving quicker than his counterpart. The chapter was taken up with the big wedding as we catch a glimpse of Andrea and her investigative skills too. Through her we learn more about the cartel and the inner workings of these gangs, which helps to add more context to what’s going on. ..

The narration is well-matched with the main conflict at play, which is between Amado and Walt. It’s clear that the main conflict is still between them, and it looks like it will only get worse. For now, things are moving quickly and we can only wait to see what happens in the next episode.
