Remakes are all the rage right now, and it seems even in Asia we’re being graced with this same phenomena. Next in line though is the beautifully poignant and emotional rollercoaster, More Than Blue. While the show is a tad overlong and has a few subplots that don’t add much to the story, overall this is a solid remake and a real tear-jerker from start to finish. ..

In the past, K and Cream were star-crossed lovers. They were in love from the moment they met, and their love was unbreakable. However, in a twist of fate, they both ended up going through a time warp and ended up in different timelines. In the present day, K is trying to find her way back to the past while Cream is trying to find her way back to the present. They both have their own goals and challenges that they must overcome in order to reunite.

K is hit with a double-bill of bad news. His father is involved in a car accident and he himself receives a life-changing diagnosis. K is struggling to cope with the news and the accompanying changes, which range from the humorous to the devastating. The first two episodes are particularly poignant as they flesh out the story that dominates large swathes of the run-time.

K and Cream, a young couple, are in love and want to start a family. However, they are unable to conceive. K starts keeping a diary in order to track their progress and share their experiences with Yi-Chi. The diary is discovered by Po-Han and Yi-Chi while they are looking for a song that can help them make some money. The diary provides context for the flashbacks that show how K and Cream fell in love, how they struggled to have children, and the main theme of the show: the importance of family. ..

The middle of the season shifts the focus a bit too much to the present, with an additional subplot involving photographer Cindy and Dr. James Yang. While it still ties into what’s happening with the album, one can’t help but feel this show could easily have been 6 or 7 episodes rather than 10.

Despite some well-written characters and beautiful editing, the soundtrack is suitably poignant and the lyrics to the final song, “K and Cream,” hit harder after experiencing their journey first-hand. ..

The showrunners have managed to keep the tone of the show consistent throughout its entire run, and despite some strange elements, the finale is a satisfying end to an enjoyable ride.

The cast did an amazing job in portraying the doomed romance between K and Cream. The flashbacks were so powerful and added a lot of depth to the story. The ending was also very satisfying.

More than blue is a good Taiwanese drama that is based on the movie. It is poignant and emotional, and it is well worth checking out.
