Human Playground is a Netflix documentary that looks at all aspects of extreme sports. It covers free-dives, ice diving, race-car drifting, and sumo wrestling. Each chapter is around 40 minutes long and with the narration of Idris Elba, it shines the spotlight on different athletes from all walks of life.

The first episode of “Proud” looks at the pain barrier and how it affects those who try to break through it. From ultramarathon running to swimming in ice, the camera gives a full-access view to some pretty uncomfortable moments for these men and women, facing the full extent of pain head-on.

Another episode contrasts this one and is aptly titled “In Pursuit of Perfection”. One of the most spectacular shots in the whole documentary series is here, with a surfer managing to ride a massive wave and doing so to perfection. ..

In the first episode, we explore how games are used in traditional tribal rites of passage. In the second episode, we look at the business side of extreme sports and how it has become a popular pastime for many people. The final episode looks at the impact that games have on our sense of self-awareness and our need to be wowed and stimulated by them.

This docu-series is a great way to learn more about different cultures and their athletes, and it’s also interesting to see how the US compares to other countries in terms of sport.

The first three chapters introduce us to the athletes and their backgrounds. The fourth and fifth chapters follow their journey into the world of competitive sport, with each athlete looking to achieve a specific goal.

This documentary is well-made and has a lot to offer. The visuals are fantastic and the interviews are insightful, managing to really get into the headspace of these men and women as they set out to tackle the impossible. It’s hard not to come away inspired by some of the feats.

Human Playground is a documentary film that takes a look at the world of competitive human chess. The film has some jaw dropping shots, and is well worth a watch for anyone interested in the sport. ..
