Truth Be Told is a show about people and their relationships. It’s about the ups and downs of love, lust, and friendship. But it’s not a sequel. In fact, the first season wasn’t even good enough to warrant a follow-up.
After watching all 10 episodes of Truth Be Told, the indifferent shrug is all that can be given to the decision to renew this show for a follow-up. Season 2 is a mess, and does nothing to change the reviewer’s opinion. ..
Poppy is determined to find out what happened and to help her friend Micah. She takes on the case with the help of the police, as well as her old friend from college, who she’s been in touch with since the Warren Cave case. Along the way, Poppy discovers some new information about her past that she never knew and which could help solve the Drew case.
As the episodes progress, more of Micah’s shady past is revealed, including her ties with Shelter and her surprising link to several key figures in this case. However, all of this is accompanied by a bunch of subplots that, at best, pad the runtime out and at its worst, feel like annoying distractions. ..
Poppy’s family has a lot of personal issues that are quickly dropped and the showrunners seem to have no interest in exploring them further. There’s also a resurging issue with Warren that is left unexplained for a few episodes.
The case Poppy is involved in is not interesting. The story meanders through a whole bunch of pointless subplot dribble before finally progressing the case forward. The reveal at episode 9 was a huge twist that could have been a massive twist, but it wasn’t.
The first season of “Sherlock” does not seem to be particularly concerned with exploring the motives behind the killer’s actions, instead focusing more on the mystery. However, there are a few instances of foreshadowing throughout the season, but these are all minor in comparison to the amount of time that is spent on the main mystery. This makes it difficult for viewers to understand what is happening, making it less enjoyable overall.
Octavia Spencer is one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, but she feels like she’s wasted in this show. The acting is good, but there’s no chemistry between Poppy and Micah Keith. ..
Truth Be Told is a show that has been around for a while and it’s clear that the creators have put in a lot of hard work. However, after watching the first 10 episodes, it’s clear that there is much work to be done. The show has potential but it needs more than just passable.
