Gangjae Returns

Mango is not happy with Pil-Do for finding the drugs. He doesn’t believe that Jiwoo could have done it on his own and wants to know who else could have been involved. He also accuses Pil-Do of being a thief, but Jiwoo insists that he didn’t take anything and only found the drugs. Mango is not convinced and decides to call the police.

Mango, a group of young people, learn about a new dealer in town. Gangjae is the man and he’s selling a new drug called Mujin. Mujin is under threat from Jiwoo’s father’s death and Jiwoo has to walk a fine line between being an narcotics officer and loyal soldier for Mujin. Now Jiwoo also looks into his father’s death too, with it looking likely that the officers on the scene, including Lieutenant Cha, are responsible. ..

Jiwoo is eager to solve the drug dispute, but Pil-Do reminds her that the Narcotics department’s biggest virtue is patience. They have Mango in custody, but there’s a more pressing matter to deal with: Capturing Mujin. Captain Cha and the others have plans to do this. ..

With the Narcotics operation involving two whole teams, they’re desperate to find and arrest Mujin no matter what. Jiwoo though, finds her stomach tightening as she struggles with her conflicting morals.

The officers move in on the ship, and with Mujin on the ropes, a rogue gunshot upsets the operation. Mujin manages to get away, shooting a knowing glance at Jiwoo who stays silent and lets him slip from their grasp.

Captain Cha is on board the ship when Jiwoo’s father is killed. Jiwoo watches as Captain Cha picks up a gun and examines the scratches on the side. The scratches are likely from when Jiwoo’s father was hit by a rock. Captain Cha may be trying to gauge Captain Cha’s feelings, as he examines the weapon.

Cha is desperate to find out the truth and learns that shots were not fired from the Beta team – it’s definitely from someone within Cha’s group. He checks everyone’s weapons, including Jiwoo who also has a full chamber in her gun.

Jiwoo is convinced someone is sneaking information to her and Taeju believes it’s Jiwoo. When Jiwoo heads back into the office though, she finds that busting Mujin is the next step in trying to uncover what’s happening in town. Numerous schematics, pictures and diagrams are pinned up on the wall – including that of Donghoon. They’ve been after him for four years and for the narcotics department it’s personal, especially given their youngest member has passed away.

Jiwoo, who had been observing the others during their break, called Mujin and revealed that someone inside the operation was a mole. She also told him about the different cameras and where they were located, including word that she was the one who fired the shot inside the boat. ..

Jiwoo puts herself in a compromising position by filming the scene with the cameras. However, she remains undeterred and follows Cha to try and figure out if he is really the one responsible. ..

Taeju, the last remaining main standing, fights back against Gangjae and his armed goons. However, Gangjae quickly slices his arm with a deep cut. ..

Jiwoo is told by Pil-Do that she should head to Dongcheon Gym, where she finds the gym a bloodbath and Taeju still alive, despite being coated in blood. Inside on the floor are the words “I’m back.”

The Episode Review

Gangjae’s return to Dongcheon Gym has caused a major disturbance in Mujin’s operations. It is still unclear what Gangjae’s motives are, but we will have to wait and see what he plans to do next. ..

The show has been enthralling so far, though I’m worried about Jiwoo’s relationship with Mujin. It seems like she’s trying to stay as a straight police officer, but at the same time she’s flirting with the idea of working for Mujin. This could lead to a lot of conflict in the future.

Netflix’s “Revenge” is a well-made and exciting show that features great action scenes. Fresh off her work on Nevertheless, Han So-Hee effortlessly steps into the shoes of Jiwoo and her revenge-fueled mission is simple and easy to root for. Will she find her father’s killer? We’ll have to wait and see! ..
