Disney have been retconning the entire expanded universe in order to make a more profitable movie, and as a result, the quality of storytelling has been mixed. After The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi released to one of the most divided reactions to a film. It essentially split the fandom in half, with some critics hailing Rian Johnson’s movie as the best thing ever and others (including ourselves I may add) pointing out why this is the worst Star Wars film of the lot.

But as it turns out, Solo: A Star Wars Story was a disaster, and the sequel trilogy was a mess. The Mandalorian was a step in the right direction, but Book of Boba Feet was forgettable and decided to focus on Vespa bikes instead of its own protagonist. Obi-Wan Kenobi? He had potential but ended up being one of the weakest aspects of the story.

We were so excited to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen return for six episodes of action and a lavish budget of around $25 million an episode. However, we were very disappointed with the rushed, poorly written, clumsily directed show with bad dialogue and continuity breaking errors. ..

I do appreciate this review will probably ruffle a lot of feathers and trust me, it pains me to give another Star Wars product a bad review. There are undoubtedly a lot of Star Wars fans that love this universe, regardless of quality. Any questions about logic or plot are generally written off with a flippant “just enjoy Star Wars” or “It’s always been silly!” as if that’s a way to excuse the issues.

Growing up, I loved all the little mini figures, wrote fanfiction, and had some of the expanded universe books. Then I watched The Last Jedi and fell out of love with what Disney were doing to this franchise. And Obi-Wan Kenobi feels like the last nail in that coffin. ..

Episode 2 sees Obi-Wan teaming up with a young farm boy named Anakin Skywalker in order to save the galaxy from the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The two quickly become friends and work together to stop Vader from finding the young Jedi’s mother, who is also a powerful Jedi. Episode 3 sees Obi-Wan and Anakin travel to Tatooine to find Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan’s former student who has been missing for many years. After locating Luke, they help him defeat Darth Vader and save the galaxy from his evil rule. Episode 4 follows Obi-Wan as he helps Luke train new Jedi Knights in order to take on the Sith threat. Episode 5 sees Obi-Wan fighting alongside Luke and other new Jedi Knights as they try to stop an evil warlord from taking over the galaxy. Finally, in Episode 6, we see Obi-Wan sacrificing himself so that Luke can destroy the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader once and for all. Obi Wan Kenobi bridges gap between Revenge of Sith & A New Hope Episode 1 starts well with Obi Wan trying to eke out living while hiding from inquisitors Episode 2 sees Obi Wan teaming up with a young farm boy named Anakin Skywalker Episode 3 sees Obi Wan travelling to Tatooine to find Luke Skywalker Episode 4 follows Obi Wan as he helps Luke train new jedi knights Episode 5 sees obi Wan fighting alongside luke and other new jedi knights as they try to stop an evil warlord Finally in episode 6 we see obiwan sacrificing himself so that luke can destroy the evil sith lord darth vader once and for all ..

The Grand Inquisitor is overshadowed by the most evil Inquisitor of them all, Reva. Between cutting off hands, torturing children, hanging people and being an unstable menace, her ultimate goal here is to find Obi-Wan and make him pay for past transgressions. ..

With Vader recovering following what happened on Mustafar, the Empire grows in power while Bail Organa sends an urgent transmission to Obi-Wan asking for his help. Little Leia Organa has been kidnapped and it’s up to Obi-Wan to save her. Abandoning his post and deciding not to watch over a young Luke Skywalker after all, Obi-Wan heads off on a rescue mission to bring Leia back.

The showrunners have made a lot of mistakes, but they also seem to be trying to do something new. Unfortunately, their ideas are often too ambitious and their execution is often poor. The biggest issue is that they don’t seem to understand the audience or what makes them want to watch their show. They try to do things that are not only unoriginal but also very difficult to pull off.

The third episode of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” features a scene in which Obi-Wan Kenobi and Princess Leia are stuck at a laser gate. Instead of walking around, they blast the gate and turn off the lasers. This scene is poorly shot and edited, with camera work that makes it easy to see the errors. ..

Another time, a new female character, Tala, knocks out an officer in a room at the Inquisitor base. The room layout changes, the personnel numbers are different, and it’s sloppy and amateurish - something you wouldn’t guess given Star Wars’ lavish budget.

The dialogue choices in the show leave a lot to be desired. For example, one episode has a new character called Roken bemoaning how his wife was killed and he doesn’t like the Jedi. In the end of his big monologue about why he won’t help…he decides to help. Another time, Vader chases Obi-Wan down to an abandoned planet for their long-awaited rematch, only to utter “have you come to kill me, Obi-Wan?” even though he was the one to follow.

Disney’s decision to release a movie called “The Force Awakens” only a few months after the death of its creator, George Lucas, was met with mixed reactions. Some people were excited to see what Disney had in store for them, while others were disappointed that they had to wait so long. The film itself was met with mixed reviews, but some fans of the original Star Wars movies found it enjoyable.

Rise of Skywalker and Book of Boba Fett are all great examples of how to do this right. They were well-made, well-acted, and had a lot of emotional resonance. However, when done poorly, they can come across as cynical point-scoring exercises that only serve to further the movie’s overall goal of hiding its poor writing.

Disney has been known for making high-quality productions, but Obi-Wan is not one of them. The writing is poor, the directing is clumsy, and the visuals are outdated. This show deserves to be cancelled, and Disney should be ashamed of themselves.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has done more harm than good to the Star Wars universe. It raises many questions about A New Hope, damaging that film with important questions that this show has crowbarred into the lore. With the next 18 months already mapped out for Star Wars content, diehard fans will quickly move on and enjoy what’s to come. For others, the damage done in this series may just be too great to ignore, souring the experience. As Obi-Wan himself puts it, “I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror.”
