‘Made for Love’ Season 2 Review
In Season 2 of Made for Love, Cristin Milioti, Ray Romano, and Billy Magnussen return to the Hub setting to focus even more on Hazel’s and Byron’s unsettling marital dynamic. This season, the show takes a zany and delightfully weird approach that will have you laughing out loud.
Hazel has to find a way to break free from her past and save her father, but she quickly realizes that the only way to do so is if she can get close to Byron. However, he’s not content with just being friends with Hazel; he wants more than anything for her to be his wife. To make matters worse, Hazel’s past starts coming back to haunt her in new and unexpected ways.
In the first season, Billy Magnussen was a heinous kind of villain- he didn’t realize he was one. In the second season, Bryon became the most heinous kind of villain- in that he realized he was one. “I want to build a whole world for you,” he tells Hazel, employing those deceitfully innocent puppy dog eyes.
Magnussen and Milioti have an intense and complicated relationship in “The Crown.” There is pure hatred between them, as well as sexual tension. Their roles as opposing forces are one of the main attractions of the series. ..
In season 2, the focus is shifted from Bryon to another mysterious force, Hazel. This new force is largely non-interfering and has little impact on the story. However, the writers struggle to weave in this new conflict naturally with the pre-existing storylines.
Season 2 of Made for Love feels like typical middle-season filler. However, we won’t see the exciting escalation that is planned for season 3 come to fruition as HBO didn’t see fit to renew the show for another season. It’s our loss - Made for Love, despite its often nonsensical qualities, is a show easy to fall in love with. ..
