Your Place In Heaven

Helsinki is destroyed in a massive explosion that leaves many dead and injured. He’s alive, but his whereabouts are unknown.

The Professor tells his group of bank robbers that they need to attack from two fronts, and with the army closing in, this is the only way they can save Helsinki’s life.

While this is happening, more flashbacks show us what happened in Berlin a few months ago when Rafael and Tatiana broke into a fancy ball. There was Marseille there to help, but it was all for naught because the whole thing turned out to be a distraction. Anyway, it’s interesting to see how Rafael got involved in all of this. ..

As the group debates what to do next, Helsinki starts to stir. He opens his eyes and looks around, but can’t seem to move. Suddenly, a loud noise echoes through the bank and he realizes that his leg has been cut off. As he looks down at the amputated limb, Helsinki is surprised to see that there is a tourniquet around it. He gasps in shock as the others in the bank start to do the same thing. Palermo quickly tries to remove it, but it’s too tight and he can’t get any leverage. The others look at each other in confusion as Helsinki starts to cry out in pain.

The Professor’s troupe of actors is gathered around him, with Sierra by his side and Marseille ordered to get baby things. Benjamin meanwhile, works with the Professor as they learn from Lisbon that the handcuffs from before actually had a hidden mic inside. This means everything Tamayo has been saying has actually been recorded. And now they can use that to their advantage.

The Professor immediately rings Tamayo midway through the operation and plays the recording of him confirming the fabricated evidence against Sierra. He blackmails the man into submission, calling off reinforcements – and the anti-explosive robot. He wants Tamayo to stick with a single wave inside – the 8 elite soldiers against the 10 robbers. If not? Well, the Professor has ways of making him pay – which include broadcasting all this incriminating data to news outlets. ..

The gang manages to distract the snipers and Tokyo and Denver flank Sagasta’s soldiers, allowing Tamayo to make his choice and leave the soldiers to fend for themselves inside the bank. ..

The Sagasta-Gandia team decided to attack the militia head on with four sides. The militia were better equipped and quickly threw grenades which served as a distraction. In response, the Sagasta-Gandia team enacted security protocols in the room, shutting down three heavy doors and cutting off half of the team. ..

As the soldiers march forward, spraying bullets in all directions, it seems like the end for these characters. But is it really the end? ..

The Episode Review

Why are flashbacks to Berlin popping up in the series? If this is supposed to be a story about the characters, why are these scenes only serving to remind us of the character’s past and not help move the plot forward? Worse, these scenes break up the pacing which has been inconsistent at best this season. ..

The Professor is back in the driving seat and things are looking very promising for the next episode.

With the second half of this season still to come, La Casa De Papel may have lost the spark that made seasons 1 and 2 so good, but it still manages to showcase glimmers of brilliance from time to time. Let’s hope episode 5 goes out with a bang.
