Invasion is a show that promises big things, looks close to delivering on that and then ultimately disappoints.

However, the promise of the first episode is not fulfilled. The aliens are never shown in any meaningful way and the threat is never convincingly explained. The episodes feel like they are just setting up a premise for a much larger story that will never be told. ..

Mitsuki, an engineer working on a failed space mission in Japan’s space agency, JASA, becomes emotionally invested in the situation. It seems that aliens have smashed into the shuttle carrying her lover, Hoshi, and she struggles to communicate with him and figure out what the aliens want. ..

Trevante is a soldier in Afghanistan who investigates strange signals. He comes across an alien threat and must use all his skills to survive.

Casper and his classmates are in the middle of an invasion when debris falls from the sky and crashes around their school bus. This invasion has a Lord of the Flies feel to it before Casper’s significance is explored. ..

The Malik family completes this quartet of story lines with Aneesha and Ahmed going through marital issues when the latter cheats on his wife. However, they are both thrown into a pressure cooker situation, forced to team up to try and survive. ..

The show’s focus on its soap opera-like characters and lack of action makes it difficult to get interested in what’s happening onscreen. Episode 4 is the worst, with a boring plot that barely has anything to do with the aliens. Episode 6 is better, but still not great. Episode 9 is the best, with some exciting action and a well-done story.

The characters are not that interesting and do not have enough depth to carry this one. With the exception of Mitsuki, no one really grows or changes or has a definable arc. Numerous questions remain unanswered and worst, the final episode concludes everything and then teases a last minute cliffhanger for a second season that may or may not arrive. ..

The showrunners seem to have a lot of promise but the first few episodes are very forgettable. The tension is there but it quickly dissipates and the show becomes a bore.

In Invasion, the aliens come to Earth and start to take over. The humans try to fight back, but it’s not easy. The story is long and drawn out, and the characters are not very interesting. This makes Invasion a disappointing movie experience. ..
