Surprise Box

Inspector Koo’s tenth episode begins with Kyung-Yi laughing hysterically. Opening up the box outside their apartment, Kyung-Yi organizes the team to bring it inside. ..

Prior to the arrival of the package, news of Seong-Tae’s disposal spreads. Yong Sook turning her son into kimchi is big news and K happens to be listening in, camouflaged while hiding in a café. ..

K and Hyeong-Tae are the two suspects in a murder that’s been going on for weeks. K has been trying to figure out what happened to Rabbit, and after finding out that Hyeong-Tae is the man known as Rabbit, he decides to go talk to him. Yong Sook is delighted when she finds out that K has found out about her husband’s killer.

Kim comes in with good news just after this. Seong-Tae has been made the mayoral candidate and that means K is going to be a lot busier.

Kyung-Yi is shocked to learn that the man he thought was killed was actually living and working in the United States. He had been led to believe that he had died in a bombing, and now he knows the truth. This footage could be worth a lot of money, and Kyung-Yi wants to get his hands on it.

The gang, led by Geon-Wook this time, begins searching through the footage. Jun-Hyeon is there, along with five others. The thing is, it seems someone was unaccounted for. When Geon-Wook finds out, he calls K to let her know. ..

Kim shows up at his door, threatening him with a gun. After shooting the man in the stomach, Geon-Wook looks set to meet a sticky end… until his neighbour shows and inadvertently saves him at the last second.

Kim eventually returns to the house and confronts K, wanting to know what she’s been conspiring to do with Geon-Wook. He has her tranquilized and thrown in the basement for her troubles. Just before she loses consciousness though, K reveals that Kyung-Yi is still alive. If Yong Sook finds out, Mr Kim is going to be in a world of trouble. ..

Kim Jong-Un confronts Je-Hui about where Kyung-Yi is, and Je-Hui reveals that she knows Kyung-Yi is at Ko-Dam’s memorial center. This causes Kim to quickly head to the center. ..

The story begins with a security guard, Santa, slipping a ring in Kim Jong-un’s pocket. It turns out this whole thing was staged from the beginning. Santa, posing as a security guard, slips the ring in Kim Jong-un’s pocket. Of course, prior to this the gang managed to take the SD card nestled on the back, so it looks like Kim has broken into and stolen the gear. More importantly than that though, it means Yong Sook’s right-hand man isn’t around for the fight to come.

K breaks out of her cell in the most easy escape ever. She pretends to be asleep, waits for the guard to open up the cell, smacks him with a brick and sneaks out the drain pipes. With a blood-spattered face, she promises to fight back.

Kyung-Yi uses the SD card to film a boat gig and learns that her younger son, Hyeong-Tae, is the person filming. He willingly lets the guy die in order to protect his father’s political campaign.

Kyung-Yi meets K on the train and makes her promise to leave Je-Hui alone. She agrees to the terms… if she makes it off the train unscathed. Unfortunately K comes prepared too. Kyung-Yi is forced to fight for her life against a dangerous opponent, but she ultimately emerges victorious.

Kyung-Yi is on her way to work when she gets a call from a girl she knows. She tells Kyung-Yi that she has set up a bomb on Je-Hui’s house, and if anyone gets off the train before it stops, the apartment will blow sky high. Kyung-Yi leaves, waving goodbye to her friend as the train leaves the station. She hands over the trigger to a random girl at the station and tells her to press the button whenever she wants. And she does…which only cracks the glass on the clock. It was a big decoy all along.

Seong-Tae slips on the bridge and falls to his death. ..

The Episode Review

Inspector Koo is ramping up the tension in the final week of episodes. There are a lot of things happening here, but it seems the end goal is to stopping Yong Sook and taking down her criminal empire. In a way, this is actually quite disappointing, with a lot of the sparks surrounding the cat and mouse gamer for K and Kyung-Yi lacking in these later episodes. ..

The earlier chapters in this season had a more urgent feel to them, and the drive to complete these missions was clear. However, since these later chapters have been less focused, the sense of urgency has been lessened.

This drama is about to come to a close, and with that comes a lot of anticipation and excitement. Hopefully, next week will be the climax we all were hoping for.
