Track Listing

While I’m in the mood, business as usual for boss La Rosh Zazim Beyhad Turkish Nights. Serious times, lies and deception. A cookie from space. It’s behind me now, Billy on mushrooms. ..

IM25 is an interesting and diverse LP, showcasing a range of different ideas and genres – but it’s likely to be more divisive than an outright smash hit.

Vicious Delicious is an excellent psy-trance album that rivals some of my favorite albums ever. “Boss La Rosh” echoes IM25, but there are other subgenres, ideas and instruments explored on this album that make it stand out. ..

The LP starts with a rendition of “Black Velvet” which isn’t bad but it doesn’t touch the epic original either. Likewise, “Business as Usual” feels oddly out of sync with the rest of the album, with a Reggae flair against a slow tempo, nestled awkwardly between “While I’m in the Mood” and “Boss La Rosh”. These highlights more of the trademark instrumental psy-trance we’ve come to expect.

The album is full of great tracks that are easily one of the best on it. Tracks such as “A Cookie From Space” and “IM25” are both great examples of this.

The LP’s kinetic energy constantly feels like it’s battling between the new and old. The tracks swing back and forth between vocal tracks and instrumentals, and the track composition seems deliberately designed to try and capitalize on this. However, the tempo is so different from track to track that there’s far less of the smooth transitions seen in Vicious Delicious or even in More than Just a Name.

25 years in the music business is an impressive accomplishment and Infected Mushroom mark that accomplishment with a pretty decent LP. It’s nowhere near the heights of the duo’s best work, but it’s also not a poor showing either. There are some bangers here, especially when the duo embrace their signature Psy-trance sound, and this album definitely deserves some plaudits for trying something new. ..

This album by Psy-trance and Infected Mushroom is definitely worth a listen.
