The Last Supper

Dong-Hyun is stuck.

Joo-Hyeong and Hae-Sung are in a tight spot. They’ve been caught up in a legal battle that could have serious consequences for their careers and lives, but they’re also all in it together. They’re fighting for the best interests of themselves and each other, even if that means sacrificing their own safety.

Residents in building 101 are meeting at 5pm tonight to discuss a heart condition the girl has. If she gets a cut, Seo-Yoon needs to be rushed into hospital.

Residents of the building are told that they will be held in lockdown for a week while their management tries to promote their church and leadership abilities. The residents are not happy with this plan and the meeting quickly breaks down.

Andrew is one of the residents that has been getting a lot of attention here in the city. His real name is Guk-Jin and his parents admit that he has autism, which gives him an alias because he wants to be like a superhero he saw in a drama. He’s been cleaning up the streets and getting people’s attention, and some people are even calling him “the new Superman.”

Another resident that’s been acting a little shifty is Seung-Beom, who sneaks phone calls and seems to be drinking a fair amount of water. Although he claims to only take supplements, there’s a possibility that he could have taken pills. Yi-Hyun sees him as the most likely suspect and decides to keep an eye on him.

With the Chairman and Tae-Seok both infected, the only way to stop the country from going down is for everyone to come together and work together. This will require a lot of sacrifice, but with the right people on board, it can be done.

As the residents of the building start to die, Andrew watches in horror from his rooftop vantage point. He can see the infected person moving through the carnage, picking off people one by one. Suddenly, he jumps down and grabs a gun from a nearby apartment, ready to take down the infected person once and for all. But as he fires, he realizes that Seung-Beom has already been killed.

Inside the building 101, Tae-Seok is ringing Sae-Bom to tell her that it is all over for the other buildings in the complex and their only hope now is staying inside. As one of the infected security guards gnashes his teeth at the door, this looks like it will be easier said than done. ..

The Episode Review

With the infection out and those inside Building 101 the only hope for survival, things take a drastic turn for the worse after the meal on the rooftop. In essence, this is basically their last supper, with the laughs and smiles soon slipping away to be replaced by panic and mass hysteria. ..

The show’s main protagonist, Seo-Yoon, is a key player in this case. However, Sae-Bom seems to be the key player given her interactions with Jong-Tae in the first episode.

This episode has been mostly taken up with the various residents settling into their newfound lockdown. The expository text flashing up, revealing “D-7” seemed to hint that we’re getting a countdown until lockdown is lifted. It would have been nice to see the guys turning on one another before the infection spread. We’ve already seen pockets of people being selfish and looking out for themselves, which is, unfortunately, all too common nowadays too. How many others witnessed people boarding public transport without a mask, coughing into their hands during the height of the COVID pandemic? I’m sure more than a few of you! ..

There was some speculation that, because the Chairman had been handing out Next, the lockdown could have prevented those inside the complex from getting infected while everyone else in Korea succumbs to this Mad Person Disease. That would have been a nice twist but it seems like we’re getting something closer to Sweet Home after all. Three’s nothing wrong with that of course, and Happiness has been good value for its run-time, with an air of uneasiness running in the background to this one. ..

The ending of Happiness suggests that things are about to get pretty wild. With 12 episodes in total for this, the reduced run-time looks like it’s going to showcase a much more driven story. For now, Happiness bows out its weekend run with a slow burn chapter that sparks to life late on.
