There are of course exceptions to the rule. For example, 2010’s Let Me In was actually a pretty good movie as the director managed to retain the tense and soulful atmosphere of the eerie original. 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers is also a decent remake and is arguably scarier (and all-around better) than Don Siegel’s 1956 communist allegory. ..

The film, which Sobel directed and stars in, tells the story of a father (Sobel) who moves from Austria to live with his mother (Lena Headey) in a small town in Maine after his father’s death. The film has been met with mixed reviews but is currently streaming on Prime Video in some territories. In an interview with IndieWire, Sobel said that he was inspired to make the remake after seeing the original film and its positive reception. “I saw the original Austrian film and it was really well-received,” Sobel said. “So I thought, ‘What if I made my own version?’ And then I started thinking about what Maine would be like and how different it would be from Austria.” “I wanted to make a movie that felt like it was originally made in my home country,” Sobel continued. “And also feel like it could be enjoyed by people all over the world.”

Both “The Visit” and “A Quiet Place” are horror movies with a focus on twin brothers who visit their actress mother only to discover that she is not the person they remember. The difference between the two films is that in “The Visit,” the brothers notice that she has a medical mask on, while in “A Quiet Place,” they are more focused on her behavior. ..

The original movie and remake of “The Conjuring” are mysteries because they involve changes in the twins’ personalities that could mean either that they’re living with their mother or with somebody else. The mystery is what caused these changes and who is behind the mask.

The 2022 remake of “The Godfather” is a crime movie that follows the story of Michael Corleone, the son of the late Don Corleone. The original movie was released in 1990 and was a critical and commercial success. The remake was released in 2002 and was met with mixed reviews.

Some people may find the new version of the film less shocking than the original, while others may appreciate the creative direction and performances. It’s worth noting that some fans of the original may be disappointed by the changes Sobel has made. ..

In the 2014 movie, the mother is far more menacing than the one played by Naomi Watts in the remake. She is cruel, elusive, and almost robotic in nature, and she never confirms to the boys whether she is their actual mother or not. Watts’ version of the mother is a little more human and she insists she is the boys’ mum when Elias raises his suspicions. She still acts oddly but she’s not as mysterious as the woman in Alfredson’s film.

In the original movie, the twins commit acts of violence against the woman in scenes that are sometimes quite sickening. In the remake, Watts’ mother has a far better time of things as, aside from a cold bucket of water, the boys don’t torture her in quite the same way. ..

The remake of “Alfredson” is softer than the original, depending on the viewer’s tolerance for horror. If someone is put off by scenes of violence, the remake may be more comfortable. However, as violence was what made “Alfredson” so effective, some viewers may not be satisfied with the remake if they want something as chilling as the original.

Sobel’s movie is different in other ways too. It’s not as tense as the 2014 movie and the air of mystery is muted by one too many clues that point to the twist ending. Alfredson’s movie was ambiguous in nature and we never got to find out the movie’s secrets until the very end. English-language remakes have often been accused of dumbing down foreign-language movies for western audiences, and this accusation can be fired at this remake. This doesn’t mean this movie is worthless but as it’s not as unnerving or as intelligent as the movie that came before it, you won’t get quite the same experience as you did if you saw the previous title.

The 2014 Goodnight Mommy remake is a different film than the original. The tone is lighter and the scenes between the boys and their mother are more diluted. This makes for an enjoyable film to watch.

I think this is a great horror remake. There are a lot of talented people on display, both in front of and behind the camera. You might have reason to complain if you have seen Alfredson’s movie but I imagine your biggest concerns will be to do with the retelling of the plot rather than the movie’s artistry.

If you don’t have Alfredson’s movie as a reference, you may be more tolerant of Sobel’s remake. I would still urge you to see the 2014 movie for a better experience but if you’re averse to subtitled movies or scenes of extreme horror, you will be pleased to know that this isn’t as wretched as some of the remakes that you may have seen before.
