The Sacrifice

Josefine wakes up in the woods after being used as a sacrifice. Karen stands over her, ominously stating that she will be used again. Josefine realizes that she has brought chaos and must restore order. Karen leaves the girl to her fate.

Josefine has been kidnapped by Karen and her husband, and the family is desperate to find her. A bloodstained Moller comes stumbling out of his house, knowing where Karen has taken her. He helps the family bring back Josefine, knowing that he has sacrificed a cow at that spot beforehand.

The family eventually makes it up and finds Josefine, just as Kee-Ko appears and starts helping her with the chains too. Unfortunately, Karen lurks in the shadows and she shows herself, pointing a gun at the family. ..

Karen was bitten by Kee-Ko and when Karen threw it off, she shot at Kee-Ko. A monstrous elf appeared and immediately pounced on Karen mutilating her. The rest of the family ran away including Josefine who tried (and failed) to convince Kee-Ko to join them. ..

Josefine is conflicted about leaving her brother behind. On the one hand, she’s happy to be with her family but also upset about leaving Kee-Ko behind.

How does Elves Season 1 end?

Josefine and the others head back to the mainland after thwarting a threat to the fence. However, Kee-Ko is waiting for them under their car.

The Episode Review

This episode felt a bit rushed. The climax felt rushed, with the “emotional” moments between Josefine and Kee-Ko saying goodbye lacking the weight needed to carry these scenes. ..

The lack of clarity surrounding the elves’ motivations and objectives is a major issue in “Island.” While the exposition about the island provides some context, it’s not enough to fully understand what’s going on. What are the elves’ goals? Are they just looking to kill all of the humans on the island, or are there other reasons at play? These questions remain unanswered, which leaves players with more questions than answers. ..

Moller says that no elves have managed to escape before, but Kee-Ko escaped. They also seem to be sacrificing animals to keep the elves happy, which sets up a sort of truce between the two groups, but is there something larger lurking out in the woods? How are the elves all working together as a cohesive unit? It’s assumed that the elves in Moller’s house went back through the fence again but that’s another part that’s not really explained. ..

Karen has been working on learning more about these creatures. The documents and glass jar in her office proves as much, but it’s still unknown how this all slots together. For the most part, we’re playing guesswork here!

The elves needed more episodes to really get to know the characters and understand the world as a whole. As it stands, this is a disappointing conclusion.
