Despite its interesting concepts, Meet Cute does not live up to its promise. It is weighed down by the need to emulate great films in their thematic lines of work, such as About Time and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. ..

Meet Cute is a film about a group of friends who go on a weekend getaway to find love. However, the group is met with many challenges as they try to connect with each other and find their place in the world. Some of the questions that remain unanswered in the film include: -What are the relationships between the characters? -What happened to the girl who was supposed to be meet Cute’s “savior”? -How did Meet Cute end up being such a hit with audiences?

Why doesn’t Sheila want to move on from the perfect night?

Sheila keeps revisiting the same night with Gary repeatedly. She has no intentions of ever moving on from there, as she reveals to June. From one of the things she says to Gary, it can even be gauged that she has done it over a thousand times. But why is that? We see Sheila being heartbroken about her current circumstance.

We don’t know why she wanted to commit suicide, but we do know that she was despondent after time travelling and walking into a nail salon. ..

Gary was attracted to her from the moment he met her. However, after their night together, she became infatuated with him and refused to let go. This caused him great pain, as it prevented him from moving on.

Gary has had many experiences that have shaped his life. He has met with a subway accident, the city got nuked (inside job), and Amber called him saying that she is pregnant. These experiences have made him question what if anything he does in his life. The uncertainty looming over his decision-making makes it difficult for him to move past the perfect moments he spends with Gary.

Gary left her and she has since reached a saturation point for everything. She has attached herself to him until she doesn’t anymore. That was a hard lesson to learn and it left her heartbroken once again.

In what way does the machine help Sheila change her decision to kill herself?

The night with Gary changed her mind about continuing on. She had been unhappy for a while and wanted to end her life. Before she met Gary and used the machine, she was suicidal and wanted to jump off the bridge. Sheila is seen narrating her rationale for choosing this “selfless death” for herself. In essence, the machine gave her the purpose to feel alive again and the hope to keep going on until she convinces Gary to get in a relationship with her. She was motivated for a long while to do something and put her heart and soul into achieving that thing.

Sheila was a depressed person who was struggling with mental solace. One day, she suddenly had a rope. Although she could not see the light at the end of the tunnel, she knew that it would take her to the light. This is how the machine changed Sheila.

Why does the night always stop for Sheila on the bridge?

We saw in almost all the iterations with the “old” Gary that their night always stopped on the bridge when Sheila would explain her sob story. Gary would always walk away in spite of what Sheila said. There seemed to be no way she could convince him to love her. And that is why she keeps trying again. But this answers a larger, more universal question of some things not meant to happen. Regardless of your relentlessness, there are some things that are always out of your reach.

Gary always had a human reaction to whatever Sheila said, and this was not an okay way to feel for a normal person. She needed help; maybe even the embrace of love. But something needed to change. Gary also explained this point to her when he learned what she had done to him to make him like this. ..

How does Gary change suddenly one night?

Gary became interested in sports, more confident, and started dressing classier. He also had a small start-up as opposed to freelancing as a graphic designer. He’s calling the shots, controlling the night, thus giving Sheila something new and exciting. It was almost as if he knew what he had to do like a charming man would on a first date. Sheila has made those changes to make him perfect for her. June revealed to her that she could go back to any point in the past, but only for 24 hours, after which she’ll be back at the salon. ..

Sheila went back into all those moments of Gary’s life where things went wrong for the original Gary. She played catch with him and encouraged him to take more interest in sports. She was Uncle Charlie in Gary’s life, which he shockingly learns then. She also deleted some people from his life: maths teacher Mrs. Kaiser, middle school bully Patrick, and amber. And Tatiana, the girl to whom he lost his virginity. All of these changes somehow led him to become this changed man.

Does Gary really see the future?

Gary goes to the salon, asks June for directions, and goes back into the past. He knows where Sheila lives because he went there before.

Sheila’s mother lets a man into the house to fix the television. Sheila is playing in the living room where it is kept, and her mother excuses herself to go into the bathroom. ..

Sheila is sad as she leaves the machine. She thanks the man for giving her his purse and tells him she will see him later. As she walks away, she gives her purse to a homeless man and he thanks her before walking away too. Sheila is heading towards the bridge when she suddenly starts crying and Gary gives her a big, warm hug, saying, “It is okay to be messy sometimes”. It most probably works because just before he returns, Sheila finally bids goodbye to the machine. She is heading towards the bridge when she suddenly starts crying and Gary Frenetically tries to reach the same location. He catches up but Sheila is heartbroken and lost in the misery of her pain.

Gary tells her he saw the future and that they can go to the future. Sheila isn’t buying it.

Gary says that when he asks her about the other side, Sheila won’t answer. He still says he can give her proof, but she doesn’t follow him. The sun comes up and Gary accepts his defeat. Only to find out that Sheila has indeed come through. He runs up to her and hugs her. The two walk side by side and joke about their first night together.

Sheila goes back to make Gary fall in love with her again. This time, she has a different plan.

Sheila has come to the other side because she erased the pain from her past.

After the machine, Sheila began to trust Gary more. At that moment, her choice was either to jump in and die or follow a person she knows so well and can have a future with. Gary finally came to accept Sheila for her flaws and she saw that. ..

Sheila finally had a lifeline when she met John. She followed him, tempted to see what the future holds when she has love in her life. ..
