Carnival Row is a must-see for anyone visiting the city. The vibrant and colorful streetscape is a sight to behold, and the food and drinks are top-notch. We loved our time at Carnival Row, and would definitely recommend it to others!
The Exorcist
Similarities – Horror
The Exorcist is a classic horror movie that has absolutely no right to be as good as it is. It’s also one cancellation that remains a bitter pill to swallow to this day. The series adaptation of the critically acclaimed film follows pretty much the same story but dives a lot deeper into the various characters and lore.
The Exorcist is a well-made horror series that has some really creepy scenes. However, it also suffers from being another casualty to add to the chopping block.
We thought The Exorcist was a great show this season. It’s one of our favorite horror movies and we loved the way it was written and directed.
The Passage
Similarities – Vampires & Book Adaptation
The Passage is a young girl who has the cure to save humanity from the vampire curse. She must find and protect her family as they are targeted by the government for experimentation.
Fox’s sci-fi book adaptation only managed one season before being cancelled. However, if you’re looking for something tonally similar to NOS4A2 while not diving too heavily into horror elements, this may actually be a good one to check out.
The Passage is a new show on Hulu that follows a group of people who are stranded on an uninhabited island. The show is interesting because it doesn’t rely on traditional plot devices such as a love story or suspense. Instead, the show focuses on the relationships between the characters and their struggles to survive.
Channel Zero
Similarities – horror, weirdness.
The four tales in Channel Zero are all dark and suspenseful, with a lot of promise for the future. The Tooth Fairy is a particularly interesting idea, and could be used to explore different aspects of the supernatural. It’s great to see new ideas being put into TV programming, and this season’s offering is no exception.
The first season is easily the most unsettling, while the second season is arguably the one most similar to NOS4A2. Either way, the interesting premise and horror elements should please fans.

Castle Rock
Similarities – Vampires & Horror
The second season of Castle Rock, while still maintaining the mind-bending mystery and horror elements of the first, has shifted its focus to a more action-oriented story combining elements of Misery and Salem’s Lot. This change in direction makes for an exciting and engaging experience that is sure to keep fans entertained. ..
Annie’s suffering is certainly similar to Vic’s struggles in NOS4A2 too and the inclusion of vampires helps to solidify this as a must-watch.
Castle Rock is a new show from Hulu that follows the story of a group of kids who are investigating the death of their friend in the titular town. The show is well-made and has some great acting, but it’s not without its flaws. ..
Siren
Similarities – Young Adult & Fantasy
Siren is a show that tackles mermaid mythology in a unique way. Much like NOS4A2, this show puts its own unique spin on conventional mythology.
In the first season, Ryn arrives on shore and adopts a human form. She befriends Ben and together they find themselves battling evil forces both in and out of the water. In the second season, Ryn’s human form is taken away and she must fight against an alien threat. In the third season, Ryn’s human form is restored and she must help Ben take on an even greater challenge.
Siren is a new game that was released in late 2018. It is a survival game where players must scavenge for food, water, and shelter while avoiding the dangers of the ocean. Our full season review can be found here. ..
The Terror
Similarities – Horror
While The Terror is more geared towards horror, the supernatural elements are definitely a mainstay of this series. This similarity to NOS4A2 may be why some people feel that the show is too similar to horror movies.
The Terror is a well written anthology horror series that manages to keep up with the latest trends in horror. The characters are all well written and make for an enjoyable experience.
Joe Hill has written a novel about a vampire, Charlie Manx, who is very similar to the character of Dracula. ..

A Discovery Of Witches
Similarities – Drama & Fantasy
The Discovery of Witches is a well written drama with some truly beautiful imagery across its run-time. That’s to say nothing of the characters who are interesting and endearing. The story is compelling, the characters are likable, and the plot is well-conceived. While there are some flaws, such as a lack of development for some of the secondary characters, overall this is an enjoyable drama that will keep you engaged from beginning to end.
The show, “Witches of East End,” follows the life of Diana Bishop, a witch who is the last living member of her kind. The show is set in a world where witches, vampires and demons live discreetly among humans. The first season follows Diana’s journey to find her place in this new world and to find love. The second season follows Diana as she interacts with historical figures. ..
The first season of “Game of Thrones” is strong, but there are also some great features here. Fans of romance and fantasy offerings should be in their element.
