Similarities – Fantasy & Mystery
At the heart of this one is Rycroft Philostrate, a young journalist who begins looking into a series of grisly murders. Along the way, he becomes entangled in the politics and issues of a working fairy called Vignette Stonemoss. Along the way, the pair uncover all manner of nastiness.
The series is a well-done mystery with plenty of imaginative elements. The story is engaging and the ending was satisfying.
Carnival Row is a must-see for anyone visiting the city. The vibrant and colorful streetscape is a sight to behold, and the food and drinks are top-notch. We loved our time at Carnival Row, and would definitely recommend it to others!
A Discovery Of Witches

A well written drama with some truly beautiful imagery and interesting and endearing characters. ..
Diana Bishop is the last living witch. She’s a powerful witch who has been fighting against the vampires and demons for years. In Season 2, we follow her as she tries to protect her friends and family from these creatures. Along the way, she falls in love with a human, and must decide whether or not to turn him into a vampire.
The first season of “Game of Thrones” is strong, but there are also some great features here. Fans of romance and fantasy offerings should be in their element.

W: Two Worlds
Similarities – Parallel Worlds
The W series is a drama that takes place in an alternate universe inside a web-toon. The “W” to which this drama pertains comes from the clash between two worlds, the real world and the alternate universe. The series is unpredictable because it constantly changes the rules of how these two worlds interact. ..
As the action turns toward the fantastical web-toon world, the rules of this world are explained, the characters grow with each passing episode, and the chapters add something new and interesting to the fold to prevent this one stagnating. It’s an unpredictable thrill ride from start to finish that will have you guessing right the way through to the end.
Although the final few episodes are a little rushed and wobbly, it’s easy to look past that in the wake of such great writing. If you’re looking for one of the best sci-fi k-dramas out there, look no further.
The King: Eternal Monarch
Similarities – Parallel Worlds
The King: Eternal Monarch is a time travel story that begins with a fair amount of confusion. However, it soon entangles its own web to become something wholly engrossing and highly enjoyable. The plot is convoluted and the lore is difficult to follow, but the end result is an engaging read.
This sci-fi series, anchored by a returning Lee Min-Ho, is helped by a returning Lee Min-Ho’s charisma.
The story follows two parallel worlds; the Republic of Korea as we know it and the Kingdom of Corea. This forms the crux of drama that follows and the plot only becomes more complicated and layered over time.
The King: Eternal Monarch is a drama that perfectly portrays its love story centre stage while adding enough twists and turns along the way to make for a highly enjoyable watch. The story follows the love story of two people who are forced to fight for their lives against an evil empire. The characters are well-drawn and the plot is compelling, making this one of the most enjoyable dramas I have ever watched.
The King: Eternal Monarch is an interesting game that has a lot of potential, but it needs more polish to be a great title. ..
The Librarians

The Librarians is a fantastical show with cheesy dialogue, cheap set design, and a fantastical plot line. However, it manages to strike a great balance between its silly and serious elements, which makes it enjoyable for both fans of fantasy and those who are not familiar with the genre. ..

It’s a place where the Librarian, an enigmatic man known for stopping certain doom from consuming the planet, has taken Colonel Eve Baird and other select individuals for a tour. After learning about The Library and its secrets, Eve decides to stay and help protect it from those who would seek to destroy it. ..
When the library goes missing from reality, it’s up to the central group of characters collectively known as The Librarians to find and stop magic from spilling into our world.
The premise of this novel is great and the characters are well-drawn. The writing is excellent and I enjoyed reading it.
The Librarians is a new series on Netflix that follows the lives of librarians as they work to keep the library running and maintain its collection. We thought it was a great show and loved the way it showed the different aspects of librarians’ lives.
Stranger Things

Netflix Stranger Things is a must-watch for any fan of horror and science fiction. The show is set in the early 1980s in Hawkins, Indiana and follows the adventures of a group of kids who find themselves in the middle of a supernatural mystery.
When Will, a young boy, goes missing, his friends and family turn to the internet for clues. They soon find themselves in a world of nightmares where they are pitted against each other in a battle for Will’s soul. ..
With little clues beyond a strange girl called Eleven who shows up with telekinetic powers, it’s up to a ragtag group of misfits to thwart the evil before it’s too late.
Stranger Things is a great show with plenty of story to get through. Season 4 is sure to be just as good. ..

Counterpart
Similarities – Parallel Worlds
The parallel world in Counterpart is one that’s accessible via a pathway guarded by government authorities. This creates a unique and interesting setting for the sci-fi genre, and makes it an interesting choice for a story.
At the heart of this story is Howard Silk, who unwittingly finds himself entangled in a big cover up and face to face with his doppelganger from a parallel reality.
The trouble is brewing. Howard and his double are swapping places, and they’re having to grapple with a plot line involving powerful forces intent on disrupting the natural flow of both worlds.
The show “Stranger Things” is a well-written thriller that only ran for two seasons, but it does a great job of adding a slightly different flavor to its parallel worlds idea. ..

Locke and key
Locke & Key is a show for kids that is full of mystery and suspense. It is based on the visual novels of the same name. The three main characters are trying to figure out what is going on and who are the bad guys.
As the siblings start to explore the house and its secrets, they quickly realize that there are more than just three keys at Key House. There are also magical creatures living inside, and each one of them has a different agenda. The siblings must find the keys before they become targets of these creatures’ wrath.
The series does well to keep itself engaging throughout its 10 episode season. With a second season still not green-lit yet, it remains to be seen whether this will return for a follow-up or not. ..

The Barrier
Similarities – Kidnapping Storyline
But despite its similarities, His Dark Materials is not a Spanish dystopian series. It is, in fact, a British dystopian series.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the oppressors have something else in mind for Marta. They want her to become a weapon, to be used as a tool against their enemies. But Hugo and his family are determined to find their daughter and bring her home. They will do whatever it takes–even if it means sacrificing everything they have.
The Barrier is a dark and suspenseful novel that takes place in the future. It follows a group of kids who are lost in the world and their search for a way home. Although more political charged than one may expect, if you enjoyed the race to find the missing kids in His Dark Materials, The Barrier may be worth checking out.

The Witcher
Similarities – Fantasy & Action
The Witcher is a well written and satisfying high-fantasy adventure that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. There’s plenty of action, magic, and sword-fighting to keep things exciting throughout, while doing the video game it’s based on justice.
Geralt, a monster hunter known for his white hair and emotionless demeanor, is the focus of a recent controversy. These skilled individuals spend their time hunting creatures for money, often facing discrimination from humans. ..
The show has a strong investigative work feel to it, with occasional monster slaying episodes that will satisfy those looking for a high fantasy itch.
