Good Luck Everyone – Blackadder

Rooftop Scene – Goblin

Colonel Blake – M.A.S.H.

The Sacrifice – Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 5

This was a natural close for many Buffy fans, as it seemed like the show should have ended for good. Although there are some incredible moments in season 6, everything here felt geared toward that moment involving Buffy (shown above).

The end of season 5 marked the end of an era for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She sacrificed herself, saving the world one more time and protecting her friends.

It’s A Sin Finale

It’s a Sin was the lifeblood of It’s A Sin, the guy whom we followed from the very start of the first episode all the way through the end. The only sin with Russel T. Davies’ show, tackling the AIDs epidemic, is that it should have been long.

The final episode of “Game of Thrones” brings to a close an incredibly poignant moment and a devastating reminder of how crippling and awful this period of history was.

End of Season 2 – Doctor Who

The two videos above are of a scene from the episode “The Day of the Doctor” which is one of the saddest moments in Doctor Who history. The scene is when the Doctor and his companions, Jamie and Matt, are being held captive by a group of aliens. The aliens force Jamie and Matt to watch as they kill their own father. This moment is voted #1 greatest moment in sci-fi, horror and fantasy by SFX magazine readers in their 250th issue.

The Doctor and Rose had a love story that was unique and powerful. This didn’t end with the end of “Bad Wolf” though, as season 2 marked a pivotal moment for the show as a whole, elevating it to brand new heights.

Church Scene – Band Of Brothers

In the episode, Band of Brothers, a group of soldiers are fighting in a battle. One of the soldiers, Buck, is injured and needs medical attention. He goes to the hospital and meets some friends there. One of Buck’s friends is a priest. The priest tells Buck that he has been praying for him and that he will be okay. The priest then tells Buck that he should go back to the battle and fight for his country. Buck doesn’t want to go back to the battle, but he decides to do so anyway. He fights bravely and kills many enemies, but eventually succumbs to his injuries. At the end of the episode, when it is revealed that Buck has died, his friends come over to say goodbye and they all cry together. This scene is one of the most tear-jerkers in Band of Brothers."

Lipton’s talk about the company and all the different losses they’ve faced is devastating - especially as it’s combined with each of these people fading out of view. It’s a truly heartbreaking moment. ..

“Would you like me to lie now?” – Angel Season 5

In the fifth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wesley was killed. Angel took on his role as the show’s emotional lead, dealing with the aftermath of Wesley’s death and his own guilt. The season ended with a big reveal that Angel is actually a vampire.

Wesley’s character development from Buffy season 3 to the end of Angel is nothing shy of amazing. He’s one of the best written characters in the show; a tragic player who never quite got what he wanted. Although he does get to say goodbye to his beloved by the end, it’s tinged with bittersweet regret too. ..

The Goodbyes – Hotel Del Luna

The final episode of Hotel Del Luna was a heart-wrenching cryfest from start to finish. The goodbye scenes at the end of the drama were incredibly emotional, typified by Man-Wol and Chan-Sung separating, promising to be reunited in a future life.

As the last video in the series ends, we see a group of people walking down a long hallway, each holding a hand outstretched. As they pass by a door, one of the people behind them says one last word before turning and walking away.

“Good luck everyone” – Blackadder

This scene is striking because the characters seem to have finally come to terms with their past and are trying to move on. The final words, spoken with genuine care and sincerity, show that they have really taken the time to think about what they said and how it might be interpreted.

The red poppy field on TV screens around the world is a somber reminder of the tragedy of World War I. The remembrance of those who lost their lives in that war is still felt by many people, and the ending of “Game of Thrones” season 7 was a particularly poignant moment in that regard. ..

Coach Kim’s change of heart – Sky Castle

This is the scene that caught my attention. Sky Castle’s main antagonist is an evil and manipulative woman called Coach Kim. She’s a nasty piece of work and shows absolutely no remorse for her actions.

In this scene, way down the line at episode 19, she’s about to kill K with poisoned food. At the last second, she has a change of heart and decides not to. It’s a surprising moment but one that’s an absolute tear-jerker to watch, with an equal amount of tension as K happily exclaims “cake!” and hurries over to gobble up the poisoned food.

“Where do you think we are?” – Scrubs

In episode 14 of Scrubs Season 3, Cox’s brother’s funeral was a perfect example of how sitcoms can shift the tone from humour to sadness in the blink of an eye.

JD’s question to Perry about where they are on the show speaks volumes because it shows how much JD daydreams and how out of touch he is with what’s going on. This moment also echoes the fact that JD knows more than Perry does about Scrubs. It is a simple but effective scene that helps elevate the show. ..

Jurassic Bark – Futurama

Fry’s dog Seymour was waiting for his owner to return for many years, but he never did. Seymour is now alone and waiting for his next chance to see his owner again.

While I do appreciate another episode later down the line seeing Fry go back and spend time with Seymour, without that knowledge this is one of the most gut-wrenching conclusions to an animated sitcom. ..

Mother Simpson – The Simpsons

Remember when The Simpsons used to be good? Way back during season 7, Homer meets his mother again after finding out she’s still alive but it’s a brief reunion at best.

The scene between Homer and Marge is so well written that it feels like you are right there with them. The subtle “doh!” is so funny and the way he just sits there contemplating his short time with her is so touching.

This short clip also encapsulates the brilliance of The Simpsons in a nutshell, managing to simultaneously be funny and emotional at the exact same time with both working in tandem with one another. It’s a really magical moment.

The border – Crash Landing On You

The K-drama that managed to achieve mainstream status here in the west, Crash Landing on You remains, to this day, one of the best dramas. There are several big moments in the show, including THAT scene involving Gu Seung-Jung and Se-Ri’s birthday but the border scene is the one that’s the real tearjerker.

After spending so much time together, it all comes down to this: Saying goodbye at the border. With “peace” scrawled on the floor and a Romeo & Juliet-esque tragedy as our two leads, from different households (countries) forced to say goodbye, it’s hard to watch. Get the tissues ready, this one’s another tear-jerker! ..

Hold The Door – Game Of Thrones

Now, HBO’s hit series is back for its sixth season and with a new set of characters to follow, it looks like things are only going to get better. So what are you waiting for? Start watching Game of Thrones now!

Hodor’s origin is revealed in a shocking and emotional scene. Back when characters were killed off without hesitation, this scene was utterly heart-wrenching to watch. ..

George R.R. Martin has created a world of incredible depth and detail in his books, and his ability to show us the small moments that make up our lives is breathtaking. Hodor’s entire purpose was right in front of us this whole time, and it made for an incredible bit of writing.

Jin and Sun’s goodbye – LOST

The show has always been a great place to watch, with its well-developed characters and interesting plotlines. However, the ending of season 6 was a letdown for many fans. Despite that, the development of Jin and Sun throughout the season is still one of the best seen on television in some time.

After being divided for so long, the pair decide to leave this world together. Their final moments together, holding hands until the very end, is indicative of how far they’ve come.

“Papa’s Got a Brand New Excuse” – The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a sitcom that has a way of changing the mood drastically from hearty laughs to teary sobs. This is most evident in the episode “The Return.” In this episode, Carlton (Will Smith) returns to his old home after being released from prison. He is greeted by his family and friends, but finds out that they are all living in different parts of the country. Carlton starts to feel homesick and begins to miss his family.

The scene is so powerful because it shows how Will is so loyal to his Uncle Phil and how much he loves him. It also shows that even though he doesn’t want Uncle Phil around, he will always be there for him.

Rooftop scene – Goblin

K-dramas have a greater number of memorable moments than those in the west, and Goblin has a number of memorable segments. ..

In Goblin, Kim Go-Eun’s acting is absolutely incredible as Kim Shin fades away, dissolving and fading from our realm, the true horror and crippling sadness that comes with this scene will undoubtedly bring floods of tears. ..

This one’s a real bombshell and easily up there with one of the saddest moments from any K-drama.

Marshall’s Bad News- HIMYM

The scene from How I Met Your Mother that is particularly poignant is how realistic it is. You can be going about your day, optimistically looking forward to hanging with friends or playing videogames and then BAM, bad news strikes. In this case it comes from Marshall finding out that his father has passed away. ..

This scene not only strikes the right chord emotionally, it’s also amazing to learn about Jason Segel’s reaction. Before this scene, he had no idea what Lily (played by equally talented Allyson Hannigan) was going to be. ..

He reacts with disbelief and frustration as he realizes that he is not ready for this.

Superbowl Sunday – This Is Us

In the season 2 finale, we learn that Jack was killed in a car accident. It was a heart-wrenching moment for all of us who loved him and it left us wondering what could have happened if he had not died. This Is Us has always been a show that is full of surprises, and this episode is no exception. We learn more about Jack’s life after his death and what he may have been up to since he left our show.

The reveal of what happened to Jack all those years ago is absolutely heartbreaking. The scene with Rebecca learning the truth in the waiting room is so natural and dread-inducing, especially as the realization of what’s happened hits home.

Buffy finds Joyce – Buffy The Vampire Slayer

This clip from the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most powerful moments in all of TV history. It is a clip of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character, Buffy, fighting a demon and it is written in such a powerful and emotional way that it absolutely had to make this list.

This episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was very powerful in its portrayal of the aftermath of a deadly attack on a school. The camera follows Buffy around as she deals with the aftermath of the attack, and it is clear that she is deeply affected by it. The scene where Buffy calls for help is also very powerful, as it shows how much her life has changed since the attack.

Vincent Van Gogh – Doctor Who Season 5

This clip from season 5 of Doctor Who captures the beauty and poignancy of Doctor Who in a way that no other episode does.

Amy and The Doctor take Vincent Van Gogh to the present day to show him what he becomes.

The Bridge Scene – Flower Of Evil

Flower of Evil is a show that portrays a complicated love story in the midst of a tale about psychopaths, killers, and nail-biting tension. For context, Ji-Won is a righteous detective and she’s married to Baek Hee-Sung. However, Hee-Sung may seem like a committed husband and father on the surface but he’s actually a psychopath… or is he? ..

The best part of this series was the heart-wrenching bridge scene where the characters had to cross a river.

The hug & the ending – Twenty Five Twenty One

Twenty Five Twenty One may not have been a hit with viewers but episode 15 was the one that gave two incredibly poignant and tear-jerking moments. In the first scene, Joon Young (played by Kim Soo Hyun) and Yoo Jin (played by Park Min Young) are discussing their relationship and how it has changed since they last saw each other. Joon Young admits that he is scared of losing Yoo Jin again and Yoo Jin tells him that she is scared too, but she will always be there for him. The second scene is between Joon Young and his daughter Ji Eun (played by Kim Soo Hyun). Ji Eun tells her father that she wants to be a doctor like her mother and Joon Young tells her that he is proud of her. These scenes were incredibly touching because they showed how much the characters have grown since we last saw them. ..

The final fencing match between Yurim and Hee-Do is a moment of intense happiness and love. The hug at the end is such a beautifully written moment that you’ll struggle to hold back tears.

The second half of this same chapter then focuses on Hee-Do and Yi-Jin, who find their fates very different after the 9/11 attacks. ..

The End – Six Feet Under

Six Feet Under has a great ending that is bittersweet. It captures the sadness of saying goodbye and reinforces the idea that all the people around us will be gone one day. The show manages to do this well through its final episode.

It’s worth noting that it’s incredibly difficult to find clips of this show, with the above video actually with French dubbing (sorry!) If you haven’t seen this show, it’s well worth checking out.

Colonel Blake – M.A.S.H.

The Blackadder clip earlier in this article is a look at the horrors of war, typified by the death of Colonel Blake. The show manages to show the horrors of war while still staying within the confines of a comedy. The death of Colonel Blake is a shocking moment in the show’s illustrious run, and it’s a scene that was shrouded in secrecy too.

This episode is interesting because the producers and writers kept this twist from the actors until the entire episode was shot and done. Only a handful of actors actually knew what was going to happen before the cast were called back to run this final scene.

Goodbye Mr. Hopper – Sesame Street

In this scene, Sesame Street helps a young boy learn about the importance of communication. By teaching him how to say “no” and “thank you,” the show has helped him become more confident in his own abilities.

The actor who played Mr. Hooper, Will Lee, passed away in real life. Instead of ignoring that, the producers of Sesame Street decided it would be a great idea to let the character itself die naturally, letting kids learn about death in the process.

This scene is great because it doesn’t patronize or talk down to children. This show has always reinforced and encouraged kids’ natural curiosity in a constructive and educational way.

Mcdreamy’s death – Grey’s Anatomy

Derek getting hit by a truck is one of the saddest moments in Grey’s Anatomy. It could have easily avoided happening and it still makes you feel for him.

Derek’s death has left the show with a few memorable episodes, but the most memorable one was that infamous plane crash episode.

Wilson’s Heart – House M.D.

Amber’s death is a pivotal moment in “The Office” and many fans agree that it’s one of the show’s best scenes. ..

House is visibly moved as he listens to his best friend mourn the loss of his wife. Even House, known for his sharp wit and scathing put-downs, is subdued in the presence of such sorrow. ..

House’s defiance of death is a beautiful juxtaposition that highlights how naturally Amber passes and the way House defies death. This episode is one of the best parts of the show, alongside Amber’s realization that she will pass away.

The stairwell scene – It’s Okay Not To Be Okay

The film follows a group of high school students as they navigate their way through the ups and downs of middle school. While the film is full of heart-wrenching moments, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay also manages to be funny and relatable. The characters are well-drawn and the story is compelling, making it one of the more enjoyable films I’ve seen this year.

With Kang-Tae crying in the corner of the stairwell, as the realization that Sang-Tae knows about his confession in the past about wanting to “kill” him dawns, Moon-Young’s single tear only adds to the devastation.

This is a beautifully written scene that really stands on its own and it’s testament to Oh Jung-Se and Kim Soo-Hyun’s acting that they pull it off so effortlessly.

Seok-Hyung’s patient – Hospital Playlist

Episode 12 of Hospital Playlist is a heart-wrenching episode that follows the struggles of a young woman named Park Seung-hee as she deals with the aftermath of a car accident. Park is an uninsured driver who was driving under the influence when she hit a pedestrian, resulting in her death. The hospital she works at is struggling to cope with the loss of their employee and as they try to come to terms with their new reality, they must also deal with the fact that Park’s death has left them without a job.

During the finale, Seok-Hyung’s patient, who is currently in the late stages of her pregnancy, finds out that she has lost her baby. It is a really poignant scene and one that will have you in floods of tears. ..

“I don’t want to go” – Doctor Who Season 4

The Doctor’s regeneration is a poignant moment that concludes the list. It’s perhaps testament to the show that it manages to add so many tear-jerking moments, but David Tennant’s regeneration, stretching on for a good 15 minutes or so, has so many moments that’ll have you in tears.

Doctor Who’s final season ended with a heart-wrenching goodbye to all of his companions from seasons 1-4. RTD said goodbye in his own words, “I don’t want to go.” ..

After seven seasons and a hundred episodes, the character of Dexter Morgan came to an end on Sunday night. The finale, which aired after a two-hour long delay due to Hurricane Sandy, saw Dexter killed by Miami Metro Police Department Sergeant James Doakes. The show’s creator, Vince Gilligan, said that the ending was “the logical endpoint for the character” and that it was “a beautiful ending to this character and remains one of the saddest moments in TV history.” ..
