Survivors

Similarities – Outbreak & Characters

The world is on the brink of a new pandemic that has killed more than 90% of the population. Those who are immune must strive to survive and overcome the difficulties of this new world order. This new pandemic is similar to the one that killed millions of people in 2007.

This excellent BBC series ran for 2 seasons and was about a group of people who fight against a evil organization. The synopsis for this series is that it is set in the same world as the original The Stand, but this time around the group of people are fighting against a different organization.

The show is well written and the pacing is nicely balanced. The difficulty comes from the fact that it’s a relatively easy show to get into and a difficult one to put down.

Outcast

Similarities – Survivors Banding Together

If you’re a fan of Robert Kirkman’s work, Outcast is a great alternative. Although this show doesn’t focus on zombies per se, the simple story revolves around a young man searching for answers as to why he’s been suffering from supernatural possessions. ..

Outcast is a dark and suspenseful series that perfectly captures the eerie horror and suspense that the early seasons of The Walking Dead conjured up so well.

Although the show was unfortunately cancelled after the second season, there is enough here to make it a solid watch nonetheless.

The Walking Dead

Similarities – Outbreak

The Walking Dead franchise continues to produce spin-offs, sequels, and movie adaptations to Robert Kirkman’s original comic book. ..

The Walking Dead is a show that perfectly captures the essence of surviving in a bleak, inhospitable world. While the later seasons do lose their way, The Walking Dead’s early run is undeniably a decent apocalypse choice with (arguably) four great seasons to work with.

The Walking Dead season 5 is now available on Netflix. The fifth and final season of the zombie-apocalyptic series is now available to watch. The show has been a huge hit with viewers and critics alike, and we thought it was time to give our thoughts on the latest episode. In this episode, “The Governor’s Plan,” Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his team of survivors are forced to fight for their lives against the Governor (David Morrissey) and his army of zombies. The battle is intense and full of action, but it’s also full of heart-wrenching moments. We loved the way that The Walking Dead used its final episodes to explore its characters more deeply. Andrew Lincoln was fantastic in this role, playing a character that is struggling with both his own personal struggles and the challenges that come with leading a group of people through an apocalyptic situation. David Morrissey was also great in this role, playing an intense but sympathetic character who helps to drive the story forward. Overall, we thought that The Walking Dead was another great success from Netflix. This season had everything we love about zombie TV shows: intense action, heart-wrenching moments, and great characters. We can’t wait for Season 6 to come out so that we can continue watching!

The Last Ship

Similarities – Isolation & Outbreak

The Last Ship is a show that takes place on a naval destroyer out at sea. While the crew does dock at various different locations, there’s an intriguing main premise at work here. The show explores the effects of an outbreak that decimates most of the world’s population, but from the confines of a naval destroyer out at sea. This show is surprisingly underrated and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction or naval stories.

The show does feel like it runs out of steam after season 3, but somehow manages to deliver something wholly fresh and exciting in the midst of a sea of other outbreak-related shows. If you’re looking for post apocalyptic content that’s a little bit different to the norm, this one may be worth checking out.

The Strain

Similarities – Action & Horror

The Strain is a vampire series that has been split across four seasons. It combines elements of a viral outbreak with vampires, and the extended run-time allows for a lot of the characters to shine and flesh out across the season’s run-time. ..

This fight is about saving humanity from the undead and ensuring their extinction.

The Strain is a gripping, well-paced show that does an excellent job of keeping the tension high throughout.

To The Lake

Similarities – Outbreak & Survivors

The Lake is a gripping, dark and suspenseful thriller that feels like a mash-up between the latter half of 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead Season 1. The human drama is tense, the characters nicely developed and the dystopian world is bleak and unforgiving.

It’s refreshing to find a series like this with such a controlled dose of dread without going overboard. This plays out much closer to a character-driven commentary about the selfishness and paranoia hidden away in all of us; perfect accompanying partner to The Stand! ..

The recent outbreak of viral eyes is eerily similar to the viral outbreak we’re facing right now. ..

Our thoughts on To The Lake can be found in our full season review. ..

Z Nation

Similarities – Family Unit & Conflicts

Z Nation is a unique post-apocalyptic series that is more comedic than The Stand. It follows a simple zombie outbreak premise and lacks big set pieces and polish, but makes up for it with wicked humor and interesting ideas. ..

The show “The Walking Dead” is intent on having as much fun as possible during the apocalypse while also upping the stakes every season. The later segments of this season are great fun and the tight-knit family vibes make it an easy sell. ..

Z Nation is a new series on the CW that follows a group of criminals who have to work together to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The show is set in the future and features some of the best acting and writing I’ve ever seen.

Jericho

Similarities – Small Band Of Survivors

The town of Hinton, Kansas, is left in the dark after seeing a mushroom cloud over nearby Denver, Colorado. With radio transmissions out and lots of unanswered questions, the small town tries to figure out what’s going on – and how to survive. The town of Hinton is left in the dark after seeing a mushroom cloud over nearby Denver, Colorado. With radio transmissions out and lots of unanswered questions, the small town tries to figure out what’s going on – and how to survive.

The show was abruptly cancelled by CBS after a 20-ton shipment of peanuts was sent to the company’s offices in a bid to reinstate it. The fans were so angry over the decision, that 20 tons of nuts were sent to the company’s headquarters in a bid to calm them down. The show was reinstated and is now being aired on Netflix.

The show works well because it exceeds expectations by moving beyond its simple premise. There are some smartly written themes here and the characters are likable and well-rounded. ..

Attack On Titan

Similarities – Post Apocalypse

The city is in danger. The Titans are coming. The only way to protect the city is to find and destroy the Titans before they can eat it.

Eren Yeager is a young boy who lives in the town of Shiganshina on the edge of the Wall Maria. He is thrust into a conflict that will change his life forever when Titans attack and kill his Mother. Eren begins a blood-lusting tale of revenge as he vows to gain revenge on the Titans – seemingly led by two new types called the Colossal and Armored Titans.

The Attack On Titan story has been building throughout the four seasons, and in season 3 it finally explodes into view. The showrunners have been teasing this reveal for months, and it’s finally here in a big way. If you’re not already invested in the story, now is the time to start watching.

Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime series of all time, and for good reason. The story follows a group of people who are forced to live in a world where giant creatures known as Titans roam the land. These Titans are incredibly strong and can easily crush humans, so the people of the world have developed a system where they capture these creatures and use them to build walls around their cities. The series is full of action and suspense, and it’s sure to keep you entertained from beginning to end. If you’re looking for an anime series that will leave you on the edge of your seat, Attack on Titan is definitely worth checking out! ..
