Alice In Borderland is a new Japanese sci-fi series on Netflix that blends elements of 28 Days Later, The Purge and Sword Art Online to produce something surprisingly gripping and well written. The show follows Alice, a young woman who is stuck in a world of post-apocalyptic violence and terror. While the show does have its share of gore and violence, it also has a strong sense of atmosphere and suspense that makes the experience all the more riveting.

Sword Art Online

Similarities – Game World

Sword Art Online is a popular anime that follows the story of a young girl named Aincrad who is sucked into an online world of swords and sorcery. The show suffers from some common tropes, but for the most part it’s an enjoyable watch.

Sword Art Online is a story about a lone wolf player, Kirito, who tries to escape the game before it beats him.

The show is well-made and the twists keep you on the edge of your seat. However, the originality of the worldbuilding is a bit lacking. Kirito himself does a good job of being over-powered, but some of his actions feel too familiar. Still, despite that, this anime is worth watching.

The 3%

Similarities – Sci-Fi & Teen Drama

Netflix’s first Brazilian show, “3%.” could be mistaken for simply playing copycat with what’s come before. Featuring a bleak, dystopian future and a Hunger Games-esque premise, the show could be seen as simply capitalizing on the success of its predecessors. However, “3%.” is unique in that it is set in Brazil and tackles social issues such as inequality and corruption head-on. ..

The Three Percent is a show that you don’t want to miss. With a conclusive four-season arc, there’s no danger of this one being left incomplete and the blend of mystery and sci-fi elements are definitely worth watching.

In a future Brazil, the world is divided between those who have and those who have not. The 3% refer to the lucky few isolated away from the ravaged mainland and living in paradise. The rest of the people live in squalor, fighting to survive. Every year, a competition begins to choose two lucky people to join those elite numbers. However, they’ll have to run the gauntlet first. ..

With a rebel force operating in the shadows and lots of interesting ideas about class divides, 3% is an absorbing watch that provides some intriguing themes.

Travelers

Similarities – Story & Characters

But if you take a closer look, Travelers is anything but your average sci-fi show. In fact, it’s one of the most unique and innovative titles on television today. The show is set in the future, and it follows a group of people who are trying to save the world from an impending apocalypse. The premise is simple – but it’s one that has been turned into a highly successful series. If you’re looking for a sci-fi show that will keep you entertained for seasons to come, then Travelers is definitely worth watching.

The Travelers is a well written and complex story that manages to weave its unique premise through a well written plot and believable, complex characters.

As the last humans on Earth struggle to keep their society afloat, they must use all of their ingenuity and courage to prevent a cataclysmic event that could change everything. With a cast of unforgettable characters, Travelers is an exciting and suspenseful read.

The finale of “Game of Thrones” leaves much to be desired, but it does enough to conclude the story on a high. However, it also leaves the door open for a possible reboot further down the line.

Our thoughts on Travelers this season are that it is a great show to watch and the cast is top notch. We highly recommend watching this show!

The Purge

Similarities – Tension & Every Man For Themselves

The Purge is a series of movies that follow a group of people who are randomly chosen to have their lives cut short for no reason. The first film, The Purge: Anarchy, was released in 2013 and was met with mixed reviews. However, the franchise has since been picked up by Universal and is set to release its second season this year. The Purge is an interesting premise that could be used to tell a story with more depth and emotion than what is given in the films. While the films are entertaining, they lack the emotional impact that the series seems to promise. If Universal were to continue making these films, they could potentially deliver on their promise and create a successful franchise that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

The Purge is a night of terror where all crime is legal. This season, four groups of people band together to try and survive it. While the first season does squander its potential, the second is actually a surprisingly gripping affair.

If you’re looking for a series that is both dramatic and tense, it’s best to avoid the first season entirely and jump straight into the second. ..

W: Two Worlds

Similarities – Parallel Worlds

The series is set in a world where the real world and an alternate universe are bothexistent. In the alternate universe, people live in a world where they are able to control their dreams, and in the real world, people live in a world where they are able to see the future. The series follows two people who are trying to find their way in both worlds.

As the action turns toward the fantastical web-toon world, this Korean drama really starts to come into its own and deliver something wholly original.

The show is an unpredictable thrill ride from start to finish that will have you guessing right the way through to its climax. ..

Although the final few episodes are a little rushed and shaky, it’s easy to look past that in the wake of such great writing done prior to that. If you’re looking for one of the best sci-fi k-dramas out there, look no further. ..

Memories Of The Alhambra

Similarities – Sci-Fi

The series starts out with a bang, with the reveal of the Alhambra’s true purpose. It’s a secret government facility that is used to study time travel and other alternate universes. However, when two scientists at the facility are killed, their colleague, Park Seung-keun (Jung Woo-jin), begins to piece together what happened. He soon realizes that the Alhambra is not just a research center - it’s also home to a group of powerful people who use it for their own gain. As Park begins to investigate, he meets various characters along the way: an aspiring artist named Yoo Seung-kyu (Yoo Ji-hye), an enigmatic scientist named Han Joon-seok (Jung Hae-sung) and a beautiful woman named Choi Min-hee (Choi Seung-hee). Each character has their own secrets and agendas that complicate Park’s search for answers. The series quickly becomes action packed as Park tries to uncover the truth about his loved ones and the Alhambra.

The rollercoaster ride ends with a devastating finale, leaving multiple threads open and a disappointing feel preventing re-watches. The reason it is on this list is because it is a rollercoaster that is not worth the time or money.

However, there are also some glaring problems that need to be addressed. For one, the pacing is way off and it feels like the story is dragging on for far too long. Additionally, the writing itself can be quite clunky at times and it’s hard to follow what’s going on. ..

The ending of Memories Of The Alhambra is disappointing, but it’s still an enjoyable ride if you haven’t already tried it.

12 Monkeys

12 Monkeys is an underrated sci-fi show that is better than its big screen brother. It produces something special that is criminally overlooked. ..

The story of 12 Monkeys is largely unchanged from the film. In the future, a virus has absolutely ravaged humanity and a lone time traveler jumps back to stop a plague from wiping out Earth. While this sounds simple in theory, 12 Monkeys quickly adds layers of depth to rival that seen in Dark. ..

After an enjoyable and relatively predictable first season, 12 Monkeys changes the game by introducing a shadowy group called the Army of the 12 Monkeys. They too seem desperate to change the past but to what end? Similarities – Characters

Despite high ratings and critical acclaim, Colony has been cancelled by Fox after only two seasons. The show’s premise of a future Los Angeles in which the government has taken over is intriguing, but the show has not fully explored this idea.
