Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine is a film about a break-up that is so bad it feels like you can erase all the memories of your time together. The film is based on the novel of the same name by James Franco and Michelangelos Godard, and follows a man who goes through a break-up that is so bad it feels like he can’t remember what happened between him and his girlfriend.

Joel Barish, a young man who has recently undergone a medical procedure that allows him to erase all memories of others, begins to question the decisions he’s made in the past. He begins to realize that some of his relationships were based on misery, and not what he thought they were.

In this heartbreaking dramedy, Joel and Clementine’s relationship is played out key scenes as Joel desperately clings to what he once had. Joel tries to hold onto the memories of the past, but they are constantly pulled away by the pain and hurt that he feels. Clementine helps him through his struggles, but she also has her own problems that she must face.

This cautionary tale is a wonderful example of how bad experiences can shape who we are and erasing those will only destroy the very essence of what makes us…us. That much is especially true here in this movie, perfectly exemplifying how even the worst relationships can have some redeeming features.
