Paranormal Activity

The Paranormal Activity series has been one of the most successful found footage franchises in recent years, with the first film in the series being one of the best. This continued success is likely due to the well-made and suspenseful films that follow, with each one adding to the overall atmosphere and feeling of dread that is created by these movies.

Hereditary

The film follows a family of four as they deal with the aftermath of their patriarch, who died suddenly and without warning. The family is left to cope with his death and the guilt that comes with it, as well as the knowledge that he was probably killed by someone in their family. While there are some cringe-worthy moments (most notably when one of the children starts to cry because her father was never around to teach her how to properly handle a gun), Hereditary does a good job of exploring its characters’ emotions and motivations.

The Awakening

This horror movie is set in a small town that’s been terrorized by a group of ghosts. Rebecca Hall is the stand-out in this spooky horror, although it does have a somewhat questionable ending.

The Invisible Man (2020)

Adrian was a man who had control over Cecilia’s life. He made her do things she didn’t want to do, and he made her feel like she was nothing. When he died, Cecilia found herself in a very difficult situation. She had to find ways to get away from him, but she also had to face the fact that she was still in love with him.

The second half, which takes place after the events of the first half, sees the film explore its more comedic elements. Cecilia’s interactions with her family and friends are a mix of funny and touching, and as the story progresses, we see how these relationships will change as Cecilia starts to cope with her new life.
